The stage is set for head-anointment ceremony of the world's largest free standing statue of Bahubali atop Vindhyagiri hill in Karnataka. The ceremony, which takes place once in 12 years to signify the attainment of Kaivalyajnana by Bahubali after 12 months in meditation, has made the otherwise sleepy town of Shravanabelagola bustle with activity. Over 30 lakh devotees will arrive in the town to watch the visual splendor.

During the ceremony, priests ascend 617 steps leading to the 57-feet monolith of Bahubali and offer hundreds of pots of water, coconut, sugarcane juice, milk, rice flour, turmeric paster and various concoctions.

"The support of all people, including the locals, is very essential for successful conduct of the event. People from across the world, apart from many VVIPs like Prime Minister, President, Vice President and ministers, and Digambara munis are expected to take part in the historical event."
